El Niño Is Developing: Is Your Pool Ready?

El Niño conditions are strengthening in the Pacific, raising the possibility of a wetter storm season for Southern California. That does not mean heavy rain is guaranteed, but it gives pool owners a good reason to prepare before the first storms arrive.

Start With the Water Level

Make sure your pool’s overflow and drainage systems are clear and working properly. Avoid lowering the water too far in advance. A pool needs the correct water level to protect its surface, pump, and surrounding structure.

Check Your Pool Equipment

Inspect the pump, filter, heater, electrical connections, and equipment covers. Small leaks or worn components are easier to repair during dry weather than during a series of storms.

Keep the Chemistry Balanced

Rainwater can dilute chlorine, lower alkalinity, and introduce dirt, pollen, leaves, and other contaminants. Maintaining balanced water before a storm gives your pool a better starting point and may reduce the work needed afterward.

Prepare the Pool Area

Clear nearby drains and gutters. Trim loose branches and secure lightweight furniture, umbrellas, toys, and cleaning equipment. Anything that can blow into the pool may clog the skimmer or damage the surface.

Schedule a Preventive Pool Inspection

Anacapa Pools can inspect your water chemistry, filtration system, pump, drains, and other equipment before wetter weather arrives. Regular service also helps identify problems early and keeps your pool ready for changing Ventura County conditions.

Preparing now can save time, limit damage, and make post-storm cleanup much easier.
